Description
Summer Connect is a puzzle video game developed and published by a small independent studio, released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile platforms. The game is set in a fictional coastal town during the summer season, where the player assumes the role of a character tasked with restoring a dilapidated community boardwalk. The narrative is conveyed through static visual novel-style cutscenes and text dialogues between the protagonist and a cast of non-player characters, each with distinct personalities and backstories. The core objective involves completing a series of tile-matching puzzles to earn resources, which are then used to repair and upgrade various structures along the boardwalk, such as a pier, a souvenir shop, and a food stall. The game features a pastel-colored art style with a hand-drawn aesthetic, accompanied by a looping ambient soundtrack of ocean waves and acoustic guitar. Progression is linear, with each completed puzzle unlocking the next area or story event. The game includes a total of 120 levels across five distinct zones, each representing a different section of the boardwalk. No online multiplayer or competitive modes are present; the experience is entirely single-player and offline.
Instructions
Gameplay is centered on a match-three puzzle mechanic. The player is presented with a grid of colored tiles, each bearing a summer-themed icon such as a seashell, ice cream cone, or starfish. The objective of each level is to clear a specified number of tiles or achieve a target score within a limited number of moves. To make a match, the player selects a tile and swaps it with an adjacent tile horizontally or vertically. A match is formed when three or more identical tiles align in a straight line. Matched tiles are removed from the grid, and new tiles fall from the top to fill the empty spaces. Special tiles are created by matching four or more tiles in a row: a line bomb clears an entire row or column, and a star tile clears all tiles of a single color. These special tiles can be combined for larger chain effects. Controls are executed via mouse click and drag on personal computers, or by tapping and dragging a finger on touchscreen devices. The game interface displays a move counter, a score bar, and a progress indicator for the current level. A pause button is located in the upper right corner, allowing the player to restart the level or return to the main menu. No keyboard shortcuts are supported. The game provides a brief tutorial at the start, explaining the basic swap and match mechanics through on-screen prompts.
