Description

Connect Joy is a cooperative puzzle video game developed by the independent studio Luminous Loop and released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile devices. The game is designed for two players, each using a separate device connected via a local network or the same wireless network. The core premise involves two characters, designated as Node A and Node B, who are stranded on separate floating islands within a shared digital landscape. Each player sees a unique perspective of the environment, with visual information deliberately obscured or incomplete on each screen. The objective is to synchronize actions and share verbal or visual cues to solve environmental puzzles, bridge gaps, and activate mechanisms that allow both characters to progress through a series of interconnected levels. The game features a minimalist art style with a muted color palette, emphasizing geometric shapes and subtle lighting effects. The narrative is conveyed entirely through environmental storytelling and the gradual restoration of a central hub world. Connect Joy does not include any competitive elements, leaderboards, or time-based scoring systems.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are structured around asymmetric cooperation. Each player controls their character using a standard input method: keyboard and mouse on PC, or touch controls on mobile devices. The primary movement controls are the W, A, S, D keys (or virtual joystick on mobile) for directional movement, and the spacebar (or a dedicated on-screen button) for a jump action. Each player possesses a unique tool. Player A controls a "Beam Emitter" that projects a colored light beam, activated by holding the left mouse button (or touching and holding the screen). Player B controls a "Reflector Shield," which can be toggled on and off with the right mouse button (or a second touch button). The Beam Emitter's light can activate pressure plates, power conduits, or reveal hidden platforms, but only when the Reflector Shield is positioned at the correct angle to redirect the beam. Communication between players is essential, as neither player can see the other's tool or the full layout of the puzzle. The game provides a simple ping system, activated by pressing the E key (or a tap on the character icon), which places a temporary marker visible to both players. There is no in-game voice chat; players must rely on external communication or the ping system. The interface displays a minimal heads-up display showing a connection status indicator and a level completion percentage.
