Description

Pet Health Care is a simulation video game developed by a small independent studio and released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile devices. The game places the player in the role of a veterinary clinic manager responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term wellness of a variety of digital animal patients. The primary objective is to maintain the health of each pet through a series of interactive medical procedures, dietary management, and environmental adjustments. The game features a roster of common domestic animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds, each with distinct physiological parameters and behavioral indicators. The virtual clinic environment includes examination rooms, a pharmacy, a surgical suite, and a recovery ward. The game employs a real-time clock system that simulates the progression of illnesses and the effects of treatments over time. Success is measured by the player’s ability to correctly identify symptoms, administer appropriate medications, and prevent the deterioration of the pet’s condition. The game does not include narrative elements or character development; it focuses exclusively on the procedural aspects of veterinary care. The visual style is cartoonish but anatomically simplified, with color-coded health bars and status icons representing hunger, hydration, energy, and disease severity. The game includes a tutorial mode that introduces basic concepts, but no overarching story or competitive elements.

Instructions

The player controls the game through a point-and-click interface on personal computers or a touch-screen interface on mobile devices. The main screen displays the clinic’s waiting room, where incoming pets appear with visible symptoms such as limping, lethargy, or skin rashes. The player selects a pet by clicking or tapping on it, which transfers the animal to the examination room. In the examination room, the player uses a virtual stethoscope, thermometer, and otoscope by dragging these tools to specific body parts of the pet. Each tool produces a numerical reading or visual indicator that must be compared against a reference chart located in the clinic’s database. After diagnosis, the player selects treatments from a pharmacy menu, which includes antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, bandages, and dietary supplements. Treatments are applied by dragging the medication to the pet’s mouth or affected area. Surgical procedures require the player to follow a sequence of steps, such as administering anesthesia, making an incision with a scalpel, and suturing the wound, all performed by clicking on highlighted zones. The player must monitor the pet’s vital signs during surgery via a heart rate monitor and oxygen saturation display. Post-treatment, the player assigns the pet to a recovery kennel, where food and water bowls must be refilled by dragging them to a supply station. The game includes a calendar system that tracks the pet’s recovery progress; the player must return to the clinic daily to reassess the animal’s condition. Controls are limited to left-click or tap actions, with no keyboard shortcuts or gesture commands. The game provides no undo function; all actions are irreversible.
