Description
Cute Pony Puzzle Quest is a tile-matching puzzle video game developed by PonySoft Interactive and released in 2018 for mobile platforms and personal computers. The game is set in a fantasy world inhabited by anthropomorphic ponies, each associated with a specific element such as water, fire, earth, or air. The narrative follows a young pony protagonist who must restore harmony to the land by solving puzzles to collect magical gems. The game features a grid-based board populated with colorful icons representing different pony types and elemental symbols. Players progress through a series of levels, each with a unique layout and objective, such as reaching a target score, clearing specific tiles, or rescuing trapped ponies. The visual design employs a bright, saturated color palette with rounded character models and simple animations. The game includes a progression system where successful puzzle completion earns experience points, unlocking new pony characters and cosmetic accessories. A soundtrack of instrumental ambient music accompanies gameplay, with sound effects for tile matches and special events. The game supports both single-player campaign mode and a local two-player versus mode. No online multiplayer functionality is included. The game is rated E for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are based on a standard match-three mechanic. The player interacts with a grid of tiles, each displaying a distinct pony or elemental symbol. The primary control method is a point-and-click or tap interface. To make a move, the player selects a tile by clicking or tapping on it, then selects an adjacent tile to swap their positions. A swap is valid only if it creates a horizontal or vertical line of three or more identical tiles. When a match is formed, those tiles are removed from the grid, and new tiles fall from the top to fill the empty spaces. This cascade can create chain reactions, which are automatically resolved. The game ends a level when the player meets the specific objective displayed at the top of the screen, such as a required score or the removal of a set number of obstacle tiles. If the player runs out of moves, the level is failed. Special tiles appear when matching four or five tiles in a single move. A match of four creates a striped tile that clears an entire row or column when matched. A match of five creates a rainbow tile that removes all tiles of a chosen color. These special tiles can be combined for larger effects. The player can also use power-ups, such as a hammer that destroys a single tile or a shuffle that rearranges the board. These power-ups are limited and can be purchased with in-game currency or earned through level completion. The game provides a tutorial at the start that demonstrates the basic swap and match mechanics. No keyboard shortcuts or alternative control schemes are available.
