Description
Ben 10 Alien Onslaught is a 2D side-scrolling action game developed by 1st Playable Productions and published by D3 Publisher. It was released in October 2009 for the Nintendo DS handheld console. The game is based on the animated television series Ben 10: Alien Force. The narrative follows the protagonist, Ben Tennyson, as he combats a series of alien invasions threatening Earth. The player controls Ben through various levels set in different environments, including forests, cities, and alien spacecraft. The primary gameplay mechanic involves transforming into one of five selectable alien forms, each possessing unique abilities for combat and traversal. The game features a top-down map screen for selecting missions and a linear progression structure. The objective is to defeat waves of enemy creatures and complete specific mission goals, such as rescuing civilians or disabling alien devices. The game includes a health bar and a transformation energy meter that depletes over time while in alien form. The visual presentation uses a pixel art style consistent with the DS hardware limitations. The audio track consists of synthesized sound effects and background music derived from the television series.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are executed using the Nintendo DS hardware. The directional pad moves Ben Tennyson left, right, up, and down across the 2D plane. The A button performs a jump. The B button executes a standard attack, which varies depending on the current alien form. The X button activates the Omnitrix, allowing the player to cycle through the available alien forms: Humungousaur, Swampfire, Jetray, Big Chill, and Spidermonkey. The Y button confirms the selection of a highlighted alien form. The L button is used to switch between the selected alien and Ben’s human form. The R button activates a special ability unique to the current alien, such as a ranged energy blast or a defensive shield. The touch screen displays a map of the current level and allows the player to tap on specific locations to view mission objectives. The start button pauses the game and opens the menu, where the player can review collected items or adjust sound settings. The select button toggles the display of the health and energy meters on the top screen. The player must manage the transformation energy meter, which depletes continuously while in alien form and recharges slowly in human form. Defeating enemies drops health pickups and energy orbs. The game ends when the health bar is fully depleted, requiring the player to restart from the last checkpoint.
