Description
Bear Go Home is a single-player puzzle-adventure game developed by the independent studio Pineapple Works and released in 2023. The game follows a small, anthropomorphic bear who becomes lost in a sprawling, procedurally generated forest. The bear’s primary objective is to navigate through a series of interconnected biomes, solve environmental puzzles, and avoid hostile wildlife to return to its den. The narrative is minimal, conveyed entirely through visual cues and the bear’s reactions to its surroundings. The game world is rendered in a low-poly, cel-shaded art style with a muted color palette, emphasizing the isolation of the forest. Sound design relies on ambient forest noises and a dynamic soundtrack that shifts based on the bear’s proximity to danger or objectives. The game features no dialogue or text-based instructions, relying instead on intuitive environmental storytelling. Bear Go Home is available on Windows, macOS, and Nintendo Switch.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are designed around exploration and resource management. The player controls the bear from a third-person perspective. The bear has a stamina meter that depletes when sprinting or climbing and regenerates when stationary. The primary actions are movement, interaction, and item use. On keyboard and mouse, the W, A, S, and D keys control directional movement. The spacebar initiates a jump or climb over low obstacles. The left mouse button performs a contextual interaction, such as picking up berries, pushing a log, or activating a switch. The right mouse button uses a currently selected item from the inventory. The E key opens the inventory screen, where collected items like berries, sticks, and stones can be examined or combined. The shift key triggers a sprint, which drains stamina. The mouse controls the camera view. On a controller, the left analog stick moves the bear, the right analog stick controls the camera. The A button performs interactions, the B button cancels or backs out of menus, the X button uses an item, and the Y button opens the inventory. The left trigger activates sprint. The bear cannot attack directly; instead, the player must use items or environmental hazards to deter predators, such as throwing stones to distract a wolf or rolling a log to block a path. The game saves automatically at designated campfire checkpoints.
