Word Quest

Word Quest is a single-player puzzle video game developed by Lexicon Games and released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile devices. The game is structured around a narrative framework in which the player character, an archivist, explores a series of ancient libraries to recover lost knowledge. Each library is divided into multiple levels, and progression is gated by the completion of word-based challenges. The game’s visual presentation employs a minimalist isometric perspective, with muted color palettes and ambient soundscapes designed to evoke a contemplative atmosphere. The core objective is to reconstruct fragmented texts by forming valid words from a set of provided letter tiles. The game includes a dictionary of over 150,000 English words, and the difficulty scales incrementally as the player advances through the libraries. A scoring system awards points based on word length, letter rarity, and the use of special tiles. The game does not feature multiplayer or online leaderboards, focusing instead on a self-contained, offline experience.

Gameplay and controls are centered on a grid-based interface. The player is presented with a board of letter tiles arranged in a hexagonal pattern. To form a word, the player selects a starting tile by tapping or clicking it, then drags the cursor or finger across adjacent tiles to link them in a continuous path. The path must not revisit a tile. Once a sequence of at least three letters is selected, the player releases the input to submit the word. If the sequence forms a valid word in the game’s dictionary, the tiles are removed from the board, and new tiles cascade down from the top to fill the gaps. The player’s current score and remaining moves are displayed in a persistent header bar. A hint button, located in the lower right corner, highlights one possible word on the board but consumes a limited resource of hint tokens. The pause menu, accessed via an icon in the upper left, allows the player to restart the level, adjust audio settings, or return to the library map. The game supports both mouse and keyboard inputs on personal computers, with the keyboard allowing letter selection via number keys corresponding to tile positions. On mobile devices, touch input is the sole control method. No controller support is provided.
