Description

Wolfoos Kindergarten is a 2024 indie horror-survival game developed by the independent studio Hollow Pixels. The game is set in a single, procedurally generated educational facility known as the Wolfoos Kindergarten. The player assumes the role of a new janitorial staff member who must complete a night shift within the building. The primary narrative premise involves a series of unexplained disappearances of children and staff, attributed to the titular "Wolfoos"—anthropomorphic wolf-like creatures that inhabit the kindergarten after dark. The game employs a first-person perspective and emphasizes environmental storytelling through scattered notes, distorted audio logs, and decaying classroom decorations. The objective is to survive until 6:00 AM while performing routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning spills, replacing light bulbs, and locking doors. Failure to complete these tasks results in increased aggression from the Wolfoos. The game features a dynamic difficulty system that escalates the number and speed of hostile entities based on the player's performance. The visual aesthetic combines a bright, cartoonish daytime facade with a dark, grimy nighttime reality, utilizing a low-poly art style. Sound design is a critical component, with directional audio cues indicating the proximity of threats. The game has been noted for its lack of traditional combat mechanics, focusing instead on stealth and resource management.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are structured around a point-and-click interface combined with keyboard movement. The player character is controlled using the W, A, S, and D keys for movement. The mouse is used to look around the environment and interact with objects. Left-clicking on an interactable object, such as a mop bucket or a door handle, initiates the corresponding action. The player has a stamina bar, displayed at the bottom left of the screen, which depletes when sprinting (holding the Shift key) and regenerates when walking. A health bar is located at the bottom right; damage from a Wolfoo reduces health, and death occurs when the bar empties. The inventory system is accessed by pressing the Tab key. Items, such as keys, batteries, and cleaning supplies, are collected by clicking on them and can be used by selecting them in the inventory and left-clicking on a target. The map is viewed by pressing the M key; it shows the layout of the kindergarten and the player's current location, but does not display the positions of Wolfoos. The flashlight is toggled with the F key and requires batteries to function. The primary gameplay loop involves moving between rooms, checking a task list displayed on a clipboard (accessed by pressing Q), and completing the listed chores. The player must listen for growling or footsteps to detect nearby Wolfoos. When a Wolfoo is sighted, the player must hide inside a closet or under a desk by pressing the E key when prompted. The game ends if the player is caught outside of a hiding spot when a Wolfoo enters the same room.
