Description

Wizardry Match 3 is a puzzle video game that combines the mechanics of a tile-matching puzzle with the thematic elements of a fantasy role-playing game. The game was developed and published by independent studio Laughing Jackal in 2014 for multiple platforms, including Microsoft Windows, iOS, and Android. It is a spin-off of the classic Wizardry series, though it does not follow the narrative or gameplay structure of the mainline role-playing entries. Instead, the game adopts a casual puzzle format, presenting a grid-based board where players swap adjacent gems or icons to create matches of three or more identical symbols. The primary objective is to clear the board of obstacles, defeat enemies, and progress through a series of levels. Each level is set within a dungeon or fantasy environment, and the player controls a party of adventurers. The game features a linear progression system, with new levels unlocked upon completing previous ones. Visual presentation is two-dimensional, with a top-down view of the puzzle board and stylized character portraits. The game includes a soundtrack and sound effects that align with the fantasy theme. Wizardry Match 3 does not include a multiplayer mode; it is a single-player experience. The game received mixed to average reviews, with critics noting its competent puzzle mechanics but lack of innovation within the match-three genre.

Instructions

Gameplay in Wizardry Match 3 is turn-based and centered on a standard match-three grid. The player interacts with the game board using a mouse or touch input. To make a move, the player selects a gem or icon and drags it to an adjacent position, swapping it with the neighboring tile. A valid match occurs when three or more identical tiles are aligned horizontally or vertically. Matched tiles are removed from the board, and new tiles fall from the top to fill the empty spaces. The player’s party of characters is displayed at the top of the screen, each with a health bar and a mana bar. When the player makes a match, the corresponding character performs an action. Matching specific colored gems or runes triggers attacks against enemy units, which appear on the opposite side of the board. Matching healing gems restores party health. The player must manage both offensive and defensive matches to survive. Each level has a set number of moves or a time limit, displayed in the interface. The player fails if the party’s health reaches zero or if the move or time limit expires without completing the level’s objective. Controls are limited to dragging and tapping. The interface includes a pause button, a settings menu, and a level select screen. No keyboard shortcuts are required. The game provides a tutorial at the start that explains the basic matching and combat mechanics.
