Description
Warriors Line Up is a turn-based strategy game developed by Nippon Ichi Software, released in 2015 for the PlayStation Vita and later ported to Microsoft Windows. The game is set in a fantasy world where players command a group of warriors, each belonging to one of several distinct classes such as knights, mages, and archers. The core narrative follows a conflict between the human kingdom of Granvista and the demonic forces of the Netherworld, with the player assuming the role of a commander tasked with defending the realm. The game distinguishes itself through a grid-based battle system where units are arranged in a single horizontal line, known as the "line," which determines their formation and tactical advantages. Each warrior possesses unique stats, skills, and equipment that can be upgraded through a progression system involving experience points and resource management. The visual presentation employs a 2D sprite art style with chibi character designs, accompanied by a soundtrack composed by Tenpei Sato. The game includes a story mode with multiple chapters, as well as optional side missions and a New Game Plus feature.
Instructions
Gameplay in Warriors Line Up is conducted on a grid-based battlefield divided into rows and columns. The player controls a party of up to five warriors, each occupying a specific position in the line. The line is the central mechanic: warriors in the front row receive increased damage but deal higher melee damage, while those in the back row suffer reduced damage output but gain defensive bonuses. Turns are taken sequentially, with the player selecting a warrior and then choosing an action from a menu: Attack, Skill, Item, or Wait. Movement is limited to adjacent grid spaces, and each action consumes a unit's action points. The interface displays a top-down view of the battlefield, with a sidebar showing each warrior's health, mana, and status effects. The player can also access a formation menu to rearrange the line order between battles. Controls on the PlayStation Vita utilize the directional pad for cursor movement, the X button to confirm actions, and the Circle button to cancel. On the Windows version, the mouse is used for point-and-click selection, with keyboard shortcuts for common commands. The game includes a tutorial mode that explains these mechanics through a series of introductory battles.
