Description
Vectonova is a 2023 vector-based twin-stick shooter developed by independent studio Neon Circuit. The game is set in a procedurally generated, abstract neon grid known as the Nova Field. The player controls a single geometric ship, designated the Vectonova, tasked with purging corrupted data fragments called Glitches. The narrative is delivered through brief, text-based log entries discovered within the field, detailing the collapse of a simulated reality. The visual aesthetic is defined by high-contrast, monochromatic vector lines and particle effects, with a soundtrack composed of synthesized, rhythmic pulses that react to in-game events. The game features a single-player campaign with a fixed number of levels, each culminating in a boss encounter against a large, multi-segmented Glitch entity. A separate endless mode, titled "Infinite Drift," is available upon completion of the campaign. The game does not include a multiplayer component.
Instructions
The player controls the Vectonova ship using two analog inputs. The left analog stick or the W, A, S, D keys control ship movement across the two-dimensional playfield. The right analog stick or the mouse cursor controls the direction of the ship's primary weapon fire. The primary weapon fires a continuous stream of projectiles. A secondary weapon, activated by pressing the right trigger or the spacebar, deploys a short-range, high-damage pulse that clears a small area around the ship. This pulse has a cooldown period indicated by a circular meter around the ship's core. The ship's health is represented by a segmented bar at the top of the screen. Collision with a Glitch or its projectiles removes one segment. The ship is destroyed upon losing all segments. Collectible items appear as small, rotating diamonds. Blue diamonds restore one health segment. Yellow diamonds grant a temporary speed boost. Red diamonds charge a special ability, the "Phase Shift," which renders the ship invulnerable and intangible for three seconds. The Phase Shift is activated by pressing the left trigger or the Q key. The game's interface displays a score counter, a multiplier meter, and a progress bar indicating the player's distance to the next level exit. The multiplier increases with consecutive enemy kills and resets upon taking damage. The player can pause the game at any time by pressing the Escape key.
