Description
Triad Tactics is a turn-based strategy video game developed by Ironclad Games and released in 2023 for personal computers and eighth-generation consoles. The game is set in a fictionalized version of the late 21st century, where global power is divided among three dominant factions: the Corporate Directorate, the Technocratic Union, and the Sovereign States. The core conflict revolves around control of a rare resource known as Nexus, a crystalline compound capable of enhancing computational and energy systems. The game’s narrative is delivered through a branching campaign, with each faction offering a distinct storyline and set of objectives. The visual design employs a muted color palette with high-contrast unit markers, emphasizing clarity over aesthetic flourish. The game’s soundtrack is ambient and minimal, designed to avoid distraction during prolonged tactical sessions. Multiplayer modes support up to four players in asynchronous or simultaneous turn-based matches. The game received moderate critical attention for its balanced unit roster and procedural map generation, though some reviewers noted a steep learning curve for new players.
Instructions
Gameplay in Triad Tactics is conducted on a hexagonal grid map. Each player controls a squad of up to six units, each belonging to one of three classes: Vanguard, Operator, or Sentinel. Vanguards are frontline units with high health and melee attacks. Operators provide ranged support and can deploy temporary cover. Sentinels specialize in electronic warfare, including jamming enemy communications and hacking defensive structures. A turn consists of two phases: the Command Phase and the Action Phase. During the Command Phase, the player issues movement orders and selects abilities for each unit. During the Action Phase, all orders are executed simultaneously, with outcomes determined by a deterministic combat resolution system based on unit stats, terrain modifiers, and line-of-sight calculations. The interface displays a central command panel at the bottom of the screen, showing unit health, action points, and equipped items. The right side of the screen contains a mini-map and a log of recent events. Controls are mapped to keyboard and mouse or controller. The mouse is used to select units and issue orders via a radial menu. Keyboard shortcuts include the number keys for unit selection, the spacebar to end a turn, and the tab key to cycle through units. The game includes a tutorial mode that explains the simultaneous turn resolution system and the importance of terrain elevation.
