Description
Thats Not My Neighbor 2 is a survival horror simulation game developed by a small independent studio, released in 2024 as a sequel to the original That’s Not My Neighbor. The game is set in a dystopian alternate reality where doppelgangers, known as “Neighbors,” have infiltrated human society. The player assumes the role of a building superintendent in a high-security apartment complex. The primary objective is to identify and prevent these shape-shifting entities from entering the building by verifying the identity of each visitor against a set of official documents. The game expands on its predecessor by introducing a larger, multi-floor building, a wider variety of Neighbor types with unique behaviors, and a dynamic day-night cycle that affects the frequency and aggression of encounters. The narrative is delivered through in-game documents, phone calls from a central authority, and environmental storytelling. Failure to correctly identify a Neighbor results in a game-over sequence, while repeated correct identifications unlock new areas and story elements. The game emphasizes pattern recognition, attention to detail, and time management under pressure.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are centered on a first-person perspective within the superintendent’s office. The player interacts with the environment using a mouse and keyboard. The mouse controls the camera view and is used to click on objects, documents, and buttons. The keyboard provides movement keys (W, A, S, D) for limited movement within the office and the adjacent hallway. The core gameplay loop involves a visitor arriving at the front door. The player must first check the visitor’s identification card, which appears on a clipboard, and compare it to a database on a computer monitor. The computer interface is navigated by clicking on tabs for resident photos, fingerprints, and behavioral notes. The player then uses a telephone to call the visitor’s listed employer or family member for verification. A key mechanic is the “Neighbor Detector,” a handheld device that scans for anomalous energy signatures; it must be activated by pressing the spacebar and aimed at the visitor. The player must also manage a limited supply of “Denial Forms” and “Emergency Alerts” by clicking on their respective icons on the desk. The game uses a point-and-click interface for all interactions, with no direct combat. The player’s success depends on correctly processing information within a time limit, indicated by a timer on the computer screen.
