Description

Spot & Differs is a puzzle video game developed by the independent studio PixelPuzzle Games, released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile platforms. The game presents players with a series of side-by-side images that appear identical at first glance. Each image pair contains a set number of subtle discrepancies, ranging from color shifts and missing objects to altered positions or sizes. The game’s visual style employs a clean, cartoonish aesthetic with high-contrast colors to ensure clarity. Levels are organized into thematic chapters, such as urban landscapes, natural scenes, and historical settings, each containing ten to fifteen puzzles. The difficulty escalates progressively, with later levels introducing smaller differences, more complex backgrounds, and time constraints. A scoring system awards points based on accuracy and speed, with a three-star rating per level. The game includes a hint system that highlights one difference per use, with a limited number of hints replenished over time. No narrative or character progression exists; the core loop is purely observational and comparative. The game supports both single-player and local two-player cooperative modes, where two players can search for differences simultaneously on a shared screen.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are structured around identifying differences between two images. The player is presented with a split-screen display: the left image is labeled “A” and the right image is labeled “B.” The objective is to tap or click on the exact location of a difference in either image. A correct selection triggers a visual confirmation, such as a circle appearing around the difference, and increments the counter of found differences. An incorrect selection results in a brief penalty, such as a temporary screen flash or a deduction of a small amount of time from the level timer. On touchscreen devices, the player taps directly on the screen to select a location. On personal computers, the player uses a mouse cursor to click on the desired spot. The interface includes a toolbar at the bottom or side of the screen displaying the number of remaining differences, a timer (if enabled), and a hint button. The player can zoom in on either image by pinching on touchscreens or using the mouse scroll wheel on computers, allowing for closer inspection of fine details. The game does not require any keyboard inputs beyond the escape key to pause or exit a level. In two-player mode, each player uses a separate input device or a designated half of the screen. The game automatically advances to the next level once all differences are found, or the player can manually return to the level select menu at any time.
