Description

Spot 5 Differences Deserts is a puzzle video game developed by Digital Leisure Inc., released in 2010 for the Nintendo Wii via the WiiWare download service. The game is a variation of the classic "spot the difference" genre, with all visual puzzles set in arid desert environments. The player is presented with two nearly identical side-by-side photographs or illustrations depicting desert landscapes, including dunes, cacti, rock formations, oases, and desert wildlife such as camels, lizards, and scorpions. Each level contains exactly five discrepancies between the two images, which may involve changes in object color, size, position, presence, or absence. The game features a total of 30 levels, each with a unique desert-themed scene. The visual style employs realistic, high-resolution photography with subtle digital alterations to create the differences. The game includes a timer for each level, and a scoring system awards points based on speed and accuracy. A hint system is available, but its use reduces the final score for that level. The game supports single-player mode only. No narrative or character progression exists; the sole objective is to identify all five differences in each image pair to advance to the next level.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are executed entirely through the Wii Remote. The player holds the remote horizontally or vertically, with the pointer function active. To select a difference, the player aims the remote’s cursor at the location of the discrepancy on either the left or right image and presses the A button. A correct selection triggers a visual confirmation, such as a circle or highlight around the difference, and an audible chime. An incorrect selection results in a brief penalty, such as a red flash or a buzzer sound, and deducts a small amount of time from the level timer. The player can zoom in on either image by pressing the B button, which magnifies a portion of the screen for closer inspection. The D-pad or the plus and minus buttons adjust the zoom level. The 1 button activates the hint system, which briefly highlights one undiscovered difference on the screen. The 2 button pauses the game and opens a menu to restart the current level or return to the level select screen. The game does not require any motion controls or button combinations beyond these pointer-based inputs. The interface displays a counter showing how many differences remain to be found, a timer counting upward, and the current score. The game ends when all five differences in a level are correctly identified, at which point the player is shown a summary screen with their time and score before proceeding to the next level.
