Description
Spike Rally is a vehicular racing video game developed by RedLynx Studios and published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows platforms. Released in 2011 as a downloadable title, the game is a spin-off of the Trials series, sharing its physics engine and core mechanics but shifting the setting from motorcycle obstacle courses to off-road rally racing. The game features a single-player career mode with over 50 tracks set in various environments, including deserts, forests, and arctic regions. Players control a variety of licensed rally cars, each with distinct handling characteristics, and compete against AI opponents in point-to-point races and time trials. The game emphasizes realistic vehicle physics, including weight transfer, suspension dynamics, and terrain deformation. A track editor allows players to create and share custom courses online. The game received mixed to positive reviews, with praise for its physics and track design but criticism for its steep difficulty curve and limited multiplayer options.
Instructions
Gameplay in Spike Rally is controlled through a combination of analog inputs and button presses. The left analog stick or directional pad steers the vehicle left and right. The right analog stick controls the camera view, allowing the player to look around the environment. The A button (Xbox 360) or X button (PlayStation 3) accelerates the vehicle, while the B button (Xbox 360) or Circle button (PlayStation 3) applies the brakes. The left trigger (LT) or L2 button applies the handbrake, enabling sharp turns and drifts. The right trigger (RT) or R2 button functions as the primary throttle, with analog sensitivity for precise speed control. The Y button (Xbox 360) or Triangle button (PlayStation 3) resets the vehicle to the last checkpoint after a crash. The start button pauses the game and opens the menu. In the track editor, the left analog stick navigates the interface, the A button places objects, and the B button deletes them. The game does not support split-screen multiplayer; online races are limited to time trial leaderboards and ghost replays.
