Description

Sniper Town is a first-person tactical shooting simulation developed by City Interactive and released in 2008 for Microsoft Windows. The game is set in a fictional, war-torn urban environment where the player assumes the role of a designated marksman operating behind enemy lines. The primary objective is to eliminate high-value targets, disrupt enemy operations, and provide overwatch for allied forces. The game emphasizes realistic ballistics, including bullet drop, windage, and target distance, requiring the player to adjust scope elevation and lead moving targets. The environment consists of destroyed buildings, rubble-strewn streets, and fortified positions, with enemy combatants appearing at various ranges and elevations. The game features a linear mission structure, with each level presenting a series of designated targets and secondary objectives. Sniper Town does not include a multiplayer mode or a free-roam campaign; gameplay is strictly confined to stationary or limited-mobility sniping positions. The visual presentation uses a modified version of the Chrome Engine, offering moderate detail for its era. The game received mixed reviews, with criticism directed at its short length and lack of tactical depth, though it was noted for its straightforward approach to the sniper genre.

Instructions

Gameplay is controlled entirely through the keyboard and mouse. The player character remains stationary at a designated sniping position for each mission. The mouse controls the aiming reticle and scope view. Left-click fires the weapon. Right-click activates the scope zoom, which can be toggled or held depending on the control settings. The scroll wheel adjusts the scope’s range compensation (elevation) in increments of 100 meters. The player must manually set the correct range based on the distance to the target, which is displayed on the HUD. The keyboard keys W, A, S, D control the character’s limited head movement and slight body repositioning within the firing position. The spacebar holds the character’s breath, temporarily stabilizing the scope sway for a precise shot. The R key reloads the weapon. The Q key switches between the primary sniper rifle and a secondary pistol for close-range threats. The E key interacts with mission-specific objects, such as radios or doors. The Tab key displays the current mission objectives and target list. The Esc key pauses the game and opens the menu. The HUD displays a compass, ammunition count, a breath meter, and a target status indicator. The player must avoid detection; sustained enemy fire or proximity alerts will result in mission failure.
