Description
Snakes Ladders Online is a digital adaptation of the classic board game originating in ancient India, known traditionally as Moksha Patam. The game is designed for two to four players, each controlling a distinct colored token on a 10x10 grid board numbered from 1 to 100. The objective is to be the first player to reach the final square, square 100, by moving a token along the numbered path. The board features a set of ladders that allow a token to ascend to a higher-numbered square and a set of snakes that cause a token to descend to a lower-numbered square. The positions of these ladders and snakes are fixed and predetermined for each game session. The game is turn-based and relies entirely on the outcome of a virtual six-sided die roll. No skill or strategy influences the movement; progression is determined solely by random chance. The digital version includes a chat function for player communication and a spectator mode for non-participants. The game is hosted on a server, enabling real-time play between individuals on different devices. A timer is enforced for each turn to prevent indefinite delays. The game concludes immediately when a player lands exactly on square 100. If a player rolls a number that would overshoot square 100, the token remains in its current position and the turn ends.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are managed through a graphical user interface. At the start of a session, players join a lobby and select a token color. The host initiates the game. On each turn, the active player clicks the "Roll Dice" button located in the center of the screen. The die displays a random number from 1 to 6. The player's token then automatically moves forward the corresponding number of squares along the numbered path. If the token lands at the base of a ladder, an animation shows the token climbing to the top square. If the token lands on the head of a snake, an animation shows the token sliding down to the tail square. The turn then passes to the next player in clockwise order. A player may also click the "Chat" icon to open a text input field and send messages to all participants. The "Spectate" button allows a non-player to view the board without interacting. The game interface displays each player's current square number, the turn order, and a log of recent moves. No keyboard shortcuts are available; all actions are performed via mouse clicks or touch input on the screen. The game does not support undo or pause functions.
