Description
SnakeRush is a digital arcade game developed by independent studio Noodlecake Games, released in 2023 for mobile platforms and personal computers. The game belongs to the action-puzzle genre, combining elements of classic snake mechanics with a time-based scoring system. The objective is to control a continuously moving serpent through a bounded rectangular arena, collecting glowing orbs to increase the snake’s length and score. The arena features static obstacles, such as walls and pillars, which cause immediate termination of the run upon collision. The snake’s body also acts as a hazard; contact with any segment results in failure. Each session is timed, with a countdown starting at sixty seconds. Collecting orbs adds three seconds to the timer, while special golden orbs add ten seconds and double the score multiplier for a brief period. The game ends when the timer reaches zero or the snake collides with an obstacle or itself. The high score is recorded locally, and a leaderboard system tracks global rankings. The visual design employs a minimalist neon aesthetic with a dark background, and the soundtrack consists of a single looping electronic track that increases in tempo as the timer decreases.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are executed through a single input method: directional swiping on touchscreens or arrow keys on keyboards. The snake moves continuously in a straight line at a constant speed. The player can change the snake’s direction by swiping left, right, up, or down, or by pressing the corresponding arrow key. The snake cannot reverse direction into its own body; a 180-degree turn is prohibited and will be ignored by the input system. The snake’s head occupies a single grid cell, and movement is grid-based, with each step occurring at a fixed interval of 0.15 seconds. The arena is a 20 by 20 grid. Orbs appear randomly on empty cells, one at a time, and respawn immediately after collection. Obstacles are placed in fixed positions at the start of each run and do not change. The interface displays the current score, remaining time, and current length of the snake in the top-left corner. A pause button in the top-right corner halts the game and overlays a menu with options to resume, restart, or return to the main menu. The game does not include power-ups or alternate control schemes.
