Description
Smashy Bird is a mobile video game released in 2014, developed by the independent studio Radiangames. The game is a vertical-scrolling action title that combines elements of the endless runner and shoot 'em up genres. The player controls a small bird navigating upward through a procedurally generated environment composed of floating platforms, obstacles, and enemy creatures. The visual style employs a minimalist, pixel-art aesthetic with a muted color palette. The game’s primary objective is to achieve the highest possible score by surviving as long as possible while destroying enemies and collecting power-ups. The difficulty curve increases progressively as the scrolling speed accelerates and enemy density rises. Smashy Bird was released for iOS and Android platforms and received generally positive reviews for its tight controls and challenging gameplay loop.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are centered on a single-touch interface. The bird is positioned at the bottom of the screen and moves upward automatically. The player taps the screen to make the bird ascend; releasing the tap causes the bird to descend. The bird’s altitude is controlled by the duration and frequency of taps. The bird automatically fires a projectile forward at a steady rate. The player must maneuver the bird to avoid colliding with platforms, walls, and enemy projectiles. Contact with an enemy or obstacle results in an immediate loss of a life. The game features a limited number of lives per run. Destroying enemies by flying into them or shooting them yields points and may drop temporary power-ups. These power-ups include increased fire rate, a shield that absorbs one hit, and a magnet that attracts nearby collectible coins. Coins are used in an in-game shop to purchase permanent upgrades, such as additional starting lives or a wider projectile spread. The game ends when all lives are lost, and the final score is displayed alongside the highest score achieved.
