Description
Six Nights at Horror House is a survival horror video game developed by independent studio Nightfall Interactive and released in 2023 for personal computers and consoles. The game is set within a derelict Victorian mansion known as the Horror House, which functions as a tourist attraction during daylight hours. The player assumes the role of a night security guard hired to monitor the premises over six consecutive shifts. The narrative is delivered through environmental storytelling, found documents, and audio logs that detail the mansion’s history as a site of paranormal experiments and unexplained disappearances. The game employs a fixed-camera perspective and a dark, muted color palette to emphasize the confined and deteriorating interior spaces. The primary objective is to survive each night from midnight to 6:00 AM while avoiding hostile entities that roam the halls. These entities are triggered by specific player actions, such as excessive noise, prolonged use of lights, or failure to maintain certain security systems. The game features a branching ending system based on the player’s cumulative actions across all six nights.
Instructions
Gameplay is structured around resource management and observation. The player controls the security guard from a first-person perspective while seated at a central security desk in the mansion’s foyer. The primary interface consists of a monitor system displaying feeds from eight cameras placed throughout the house. The player can switch between camera feeds using the number keys (1-8) on a keyboard or the directional pad on a controller. Each camera feed shows a static image of a room, with occasional movement indicating the presence of an entity. The player must monitor these feeds to track entity positions and predict their paths. To deter entities, the player can activate door locks and hallway lights by clicking on corresponding buttons on the monitor interface. Each action consumes a limited amount of power from a battery gauge displayed at the top of the screen. Power is depleted over time and must be conserved; if the gauge reaches zero, all systems shut down, leaving the player vulnerable. The player can also use a handheld flashlight, toggled with the F key (keyboard) or the right bumper (controller), to check the immediate surroundings of the security desk. The flashlight has a separate battery that recharges slowly when not in use. The game ends if an entity reaches the security desk, indicated by a sudden screen distortion and a loud audio cue. No combat mechanics are present; survival relies entirely on evasion, timing, and resource allocation.
