Description
Scrap Brawl is a vehicular combat game developed by Rustbucket Interactive and released in 2023 for personal computers and eighth-generation consoles. The game is set in a post-industrial wasteland where factions compete for control over salvageable resources. Players assume the role of a driver-pilot operating a customizable combat vehicle constructed from scavenged parts. The narrative is delivered through environmental storytelling and brief radio transmissions, with no voiced protagonist. The game world is divided into several open zones, each dominated by a different faction with distinct vehicle designs and combat philosophies. The core loop involves traversing these zones, engaging in combat with enemy vehicles, and collecting scrap metal, fuel, and weapon components. Collected materials are used at designated garages to upgrade or completely rebuild the player’s vehicle. The game features a physics-based damage system where individual components, such as wheels, armor plates, and weapon mounts, can be destroyed independently, affecting vehicle performance. Multiplayer modes include team deathmatch, capture the flag, and a free-for-all brawl. A single-player campaign offers a series of escalating missions against AI-controlled opponents. The visual style employs a muted color palette dominated by rust, oil, and dust, with a cel-shaded outline effect applied to all vehicles and structures.
Instructions
Gameplay is controlled through a standard gamepad or keyboard and mouse setup. The left analog stick or W, A, S, D keys control vehicle movement and steering. The right analog stick or mouse controls the aiming reticle for turret-mounted weapons. The right trigger or left mouse button fires the primary weapon. The left trigger or right mouse button activates a secondary ability, such as a temporary speed boost or an electromagnetic pulse. The shoulder buttons or Q and E keys cycle through available weapon slots. The face buttons or spacebar, shift, and control keys perform actions: jump, handbrake, and toggle reverse camera, respectively. The directional pad or number keys select quick-access items, such as repair kits or fuel canisters. The start or escape key opens the pause menu and inventory screen. In the garage, players navigate a radial menu using the analog stick or mouse to select and attach parts. Each part has a weight and power requirement; exceeding the vehicle’s chassis capacity reduces speed and handling. Combat relies on leading targets due to projectile travel time and accounting for terrain elevation. The game provides a heads-up display showing vehicle health, fuel level, weapon heat, and a mini-map with enemy blips. No tutorial is provided; all control functions are listed in the settings menu.
