Description

Sawblade Fest Run is a 2D side-scrolling endless runner game developed by independent studio Gear Grind Interactive and released in 2023. The game is set in a surreal industrial carnival environment where the player controls a character fleeing through a series of automated sawblade traps. The visual aesthetic combines neon-lit amusement park elements with heavy machinery, featuring rotating gears, conveyor belts, and spinning circular saws as primary obstacles. The game’s soundtrack consists of distorted carnival calliope music mixed with industrial noise. The objective is to achieve the highest possible distance score by surviving increasingly complex sequences of sawblade patterns. The game includes a global leaderboard and a local high-score tracking system. No narrative or character backstory is provided; the focus is entirely on reflex-based survival. The game is available on Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms via digital distribution.

Instructions

Gameplay is controlled through a single input mechanism: a tap or key press. The player character automatically runs forward at a constant speed. The primary action is a jump, executed by pressing the spacebar on a keyboard, tapping the screen on a mobile device, or pressing the A button on a controller. A single press performs a standard jump. Holding the input performs a higher jump, allowing the character to clear taller sawblades or reach elevated platforms. The character can also perform a double jump by pressing the input again while airborne. Collision with any sawblade, gear, or the bottom edge of the screen results in immediate termination of the run. The game introduces new obstacle types progressively, including horizontal sawblades that move vertically, vertical sawblades that slide horizontally, and sawblades that rotate in elliptical paths. The player must time jumps to pass through gaps between blades. No power-ups, shields, or checkpoints are present. The game’s interface displays the current distance traveled in meters at the top of the screen, along with the current high score. A pause function is available by pressing the Escape key or a dedicated on-screen button. The game ends upon collision, and the final distance is recorded.
