Description

Sandbox Island War is a single-player and multiplayer sandbox strategy game developed by independent studio Nautilus Interactive, released in 2023 for Windows and macOS. The game is set on a procedurally generated archipelago where players assume the role of a faction leader. The primary objective is to conquer all enemy-held islands through resource management, base construction, and tactical combat. The game world is fully destructible, allowing terrain modification such as digging trenches, building bridges, or leveling hills. Each island contains finite resources including wood, stone, iron, and oil, which are required to construct buildings, vehicles, and weapons. Factions include the Mechanized Union, the Nature Collective, and the Nomad Raiders, each with unique unit trees and building blueprints. The game features a dynamic weather system that affects visibility, movement speed, and weapon accuracy. Fog of war obscures enemy movements until units or structures provide line of sight. Victory conditions are determined by the elimination of all opposing faction headquarters or by controlling a majority of resource nodes for a set duration. The game supports up to eight players in online matches, with dedicated servers for persistent campaigns.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are managed through a point-and-click interface with keyboard shortcuts. The player controls a cursor to select units, buildings, or terrain tiles. Left-click selects a single entity; drag-click selects multiple units. Right-click issues movement, attack, or gather commands to selected units. The camera is controlled by the WASD keys or by moving the mouse to the screen edge. The scroll wheel zooms in and out. The number keys 1 through 0 assign control groups for rapid selection. The space bar centers the camera on the last alert or combat event. The Tab key cycles through idle units. The B key opens the build menu, where structures are placed on valid terrain tiles. The V key opens the vehicle factory menu. The M key opens the map overlay, showing resource locations and enemy sightings. The Escape key pauses the game in single-player mode or opens the menu in multiplayer. Combat is resolved through real-time engagement; units automatically attack enemies within range. Manual targeting is possible by holding the Shift key and right-clicking a specific enemy. Resource gathering requires assigning workers to resource nodes; workers automatically return resources to the nearest storage building. The game includes a tutorial mode that explains each control function sequentially.
