Description

Runic Block Collapse is a tile-matching puzzle video game developed by independent studio Lumenforge Games and released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile platforms. The game is set within a procedurally generated grid of hexagonal tiles, each inscribed with ancient runic symbols drawn from a fictional alphabet. The objective is to clear the board by selecting groups of adjacent tiles that share the same rune. The game incorporates a scoring system based on the number of tiles cleared in a single move, with larger groups yielding exponentially higher points. A central mechanic involves the periodic introduction of "rune-locked" tiles, which require the player to match a specific sequence of adjacent runes to unlock them. The game features a single-player campaign mode with escalating difficulty, as well as an endless mode where the grid expands over time. Visual design emphasizes a muted color palette and minimalist interface, with rune animations that glow upon selection. The soundtrack consists of ambient drone compositions that shift in intensity based on player performance. No narrative or character progression exists; the game focuses solely on abstract pattern recognition and spatial reasoning.

Instructions

The game is controlled exclusively through a pointing device or touch input. To play, the player selects a single hexagonal tile by clicking or tapping it. The game then highlights all contiguous tiles of the same rune type that are directly adjacent to the selected tile. The player confirms the selection by clicking or tapping the highlighted group again, causing the tiles to vanish and the remaining tiles to collapse inward toward the center of the grid. New tiles from the top of the board fall to fill empty spaces. A move is only valid if the selected group consists of at least three tiles. The player may deselect a highlighted group by clicking an empty area of the grid. The interface displays a current score counter, a combo multiplier indicator, and a timer for timed modes. In the campaign mode, a progress bar shows the number of tiles remaining to clear the level. The game provides no undo function; each move is permanent. The player can pause the game at any time by pressing the Escape key or a dedicated pause button on the screen. No keyboard shortcuts exist beyond the pause function. The game automatically saves progress after each completed level in campaign mode.
