Description
Nova Solitaire is a digital card game developed by independent studio Redshift Games, released in 2023 for Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms. The game is a variant of traditional Klondike solitaire, set within a science fiction narrative framework. The player assumes the role of a deep-space communications officer tasked with restoring a damaged interstellar network by completing card layouts that represent signal relays. The game features a minimalist, high-contrast visual style with a dark background, neon blue and orange card suits, and ambient electronic sound design. Each card layout is procedurally generated, ensuring no two games are identical. The game includes a single-player campaign mode with 120 levels, each introducing new rule modifications such as time limits, restricted moves, or altered scoring systems. A free-play mode allows unlimited games with adjustable difficulty parameters. Nova Solitaire does not include multiplayer or online leaderboards. The game’s narrative is delivered through brief text logs between levels, detailing the protagonist’s mission and the fictional technology of the Nova network. The game has been noted for its accessibility, with options for colorblind mode, adjustable card size, and a hint system that does not penalize the player.
Instructions
Gameplay in Nova Solitaire follows the standard rules of Klondike solitaire with specific modifications. The objective is to move all cards from the tableau and stock to four foundation piles, sorted by suit in ascending order from Ace to King. The tableau consists of seven columns, with the first column containing one card, the second two, and so on. Only the top card of each column is face-up. Cards in the tableau can be moved between columns in descending order and alternating colors. A sequence of cards can be moved as a group if they are in proper order. Empty tableau columns can be filled only with a King or a sequence starting with a King. The stock pile, located in the upper left, provides additional cards. Clicking the stock deals one card to a waste pile, from which the top card can be played. The game includes a single undo function per move, accessible via the Z key or a button on the interface. The player can also right-click a card to automatically move it to a valid foundation pile. The game tracks time and moves, with a scoring system that awards points for each card placed on a foundation and deducts points for time elapsed. The interface displays a pause menu, a hint button that highlights a valid move, and a settings panel for adjusting sound, visual themes, and control sensitivity. The game supports both mouse and touch input, with drag-and-drop or tap-to-select mechanics.
