Description

Nightmare Couple Halloween Party is a cooperative survival horror video game developed by Spooky Pixel Studios and released in October 2023 for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set on Halloween night in a suburban neighborhood transformed into a supernatural labyrinth. Two players control a romantic couple, Alex and Mia, who must navigate a series of haunted houses, cursed corn mazes, and graveyards to escape a malevolent entity known as the Trickster. The narrative unfolds through environmental storytelling and collectible diary pages, revealing that the Trickster traps couples on Halloween to feed on their fear. The game features a fixed third-person camera perspective and a muted color palette dominated by deep purples, oranges, and blacks. The soundtrack consists of ambient creaks, distant howls, and a low, droning synth score. The objective is to solve puzzles, avoid hostile spirits, and reach the final safe house before dawn. The game has a single ending, determined by whether both characters survive until the final sequence.

Instructions

Gameplay is strictly cooperative, requiring two players using separate controllers or a split-screen setup. Each player controls one character. Player one controls Alex, who can push heavy objects and break fragile barriers. Player two controls Mia, who can crawl through small spaces and disarm traps. Movement is mapped to the left analog stick. The right analog stick controls the camera. The A button performs context-sensitive actions, such as opening doors or picking up items. The B button triggers a character-specific ability: Alex uses a flashlight to reveal hidden paths, while Mia uses a mirror to reflect light and blind enemies. The X button allows characters to call out to each other, producing a sound that can attract or repel nearby spirits. The Y button initiates a hand-holding mechanic, which increases movement speed but prevents either character from using their abilities. Health is represented by a shared heart meter; if one character takes damage, the meter depletes for both. If the meter reaches zero, the game ends and restarts from the last checkpoint. Puzzles require both characters to interact with separate mechanisms simultaneously. The game has no difficulty settings, and checkpoints are placed after each major puzzle sequence.
