Description
Nibblix is a single-player, tile-based puzzle video game developed by the independent studio Fathom Digital and released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile devices. The game is set within a procedurally generated, two-dimensional grid environment referred to as the "Nibblefield." The player controls a small, spherical entity called a Nibblix, which must consume smaller, stationary energy pellets to increase its mass and score. The primary objective is to navigate the Nibblefield while avoiding larger, predatory entities known as "Gulpers," which move in predictable but increasingly complex patterns. The game features a minimalist visual aesthetic, with a monochromatic color scheme that shifts to indicate different hazard levels. No narrative or character backstory is provided; the game focuses entirely on spatial reasoning and reaction-based gameplay. The difficulty escalates through successive levels, each introducing additional Gulpers and more restrictive movement corridors. The game ends when the Nibblix is consumed by a Gulper or collides with the grid boundary.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are executed through a direct input interface. The Nibblix moves continuously in a straight line within the grid. The player alters its direction by pressing directional inputs. On a keyboard, the arrow keys or the W, A, S, D keys change the Nibblix's heading to the corresponding cardinal direction. On a touchscreen device, swiping in a direction changes the heading. The Nibblix cannot stop or reverse its movement; it can only change direction at right angles. The player must guide the Nibblix to collect energy pellets, which are scattered across the grid. Each pellet increases the score by one point and adds a small increment to the Nibblix's size. Gulpers are larger than the Nibblix and move along fixed, looping paths. Contact with a Gulper results in immediate termination of the game. The player can temporarily stun a Gulper by consuming a special "Flash Pellet," which appears periodically. The Flash Pellet freezes all Gulpers for three seconds. The game interface displays the current score, the current level number, and the number of remaining Flash Pellets. No pause function is available during active gameplay.
