Description

Neon Bumper is a single-player arcade-style video game developed by Void Pixel Studios and released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile platforms. The game is set within a closed, rectangular arena illuminated by a grid of neon lines and geometric obstacles. The player controls a small, luminous disc, referred to as the bumper, which moves across a flat, frictionless surface. The primary objective is to survive for as long as possible while accumulating points by colliding with floating, color-coded energy orbs. The arena is bordered by walls that emit a damaging electric field upon contact. The game’s visual aesthetic is defined by a dark background, high-contrast neon colors, and a synthesized soundtrack that reacts to player actions. No narrative or character development is present; the experience is purely score-driven. The difficulty escalates as the game progresses, with the arena shrinking periodically and the spawn rate of obstacles increasing. A persistent high-score leaderboard is displayed on the main menu.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are based on momentum and collision physics. The bumper moves continuously in a straight line until it strikes a wall, an obstacle, or an energy orb. Upon impact with a wall, the bumper reverses direction and loses a segment of its health bar. Contact with a red obstacle destroys the bumper instantly, ending the game. Contact with a green energy orb adds one point to the score and briefly increases the bumper’s speed by ten percent. Contact with a blue energy orb restores one health segment. The player does not directly steer the bumper. Instead, the player activates a directional impulse by pressing a single input key or tapping the screen. On a keyboard, the spacebar triggers the impulse. On a touchscreen, a tap anywhere on the display triggers the impulse. Each impulse instantly changes the bumper’s trajectory by a fixed 90-degree angle to the left or right, alternating with each press. The first press turns the bumper left, the second press turns it right, and the pattern repeats. The impulse can only be activated once every 0.5 seconds, preventing rapid directional changes. The game ends when the bumper’s health reaches zero or upon collision with a red obstacle. The final score is recorded locally. No pause function is available during active gameplay.
