Description
Monsterr Match is a tile-matching puzzle video game developed by independent studio Feral Forge Games and released in 2023 for PC and mobile platforms. The game is set in a fictional realm where various monstrous creatures, each with distinct elemental attributes, are represented as collectible tiles on a grid-based board. The objective is to clear the board by matching three or more identical monster tiles in a row, either horizontally or vertically. The game features a progression system where players unlock new monster types and special abilities as they advance through levels. Each level presents a unique board layout with obstacles such as locked tiles, stone blocks, and time-limited challenges. The visual design employs a dark fantasy aesthetic with hand-drawn monster sprites and a muted color palette. The game includes a single-player campaign with over 150 levels, a daily challenge mode, and a leaderboard system for score comparison. No narrative or character dialogue is present; the focus is entirely on puzzle mechanics and score optimization.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are based on a drag-and-swap interface. The player selects a monster tile by tapping or clicking on it, then drags it to an adjacent tile to swap their positions. A valid swap results in a match of three or more identical tiles in a straight line, which causes those tiles to disappear and award points. New tiles fall from the top of the grid to fill empty spaces, potentially creating chain reactions. The game ends when no further moves are possible or when a level-specific condition, such as reaching a target score or clearing a set number of obstacles, is met. Controls on PC use a mouse for selection and drag actions; on mobile devices, touch input is used with the same drag gesture. The interface displays a score counter, a move counter for levels with limited moves, and a timer for timed levels. Special tiles, such as bomb monsters or rainbow monsters, are created by matching four or five tiles in specific patterns. These special tiles can be activated by matching them with other tiles of the same color, triggering area-of-effect explosions or color-clearing effects. The game provides a pause menu with options to restart the level, access settings, or return to the main menu. No tutorial is provided beyond the first level; all mechanics are introduced through contextual prompts.
