Description
Memory Exclusive is a digital puzzle game released in 2023, developed by independent studio LumenWorks. The game is classified as a single-player, turn-based logic puzzle with a minimalist aesthetic. Its core premise revolves around a protagonist who awakens in a sterile, white room with no memory of their identity or past. The environment is composed of a series of interconnected chambers, each containing a central terminal. The player’s objective is to reconstruct fragmented memories by solving spatial and pattern-based puzzles. Each solved puzzle unlocks a short, non-linear narrative sequence that reveals pieces of the protagonist’s history. The game features a muted color palette, ambient sound design, and no dialogue. The narrative is conveyed entirely through environmental cues and abstract visual sequences. Memory Exclusive contains 45 distinct puzzle chambers, with an estimated playtime of 4 to 6 hours. The game does not include a fail state; incorrect puzzle inputs simply reset the current chamber without penalty. It is available on Windows, macOS, and Nintendo Switch.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are structured around a point-and-click interface. The player navigates the protagonist through each chamber using the mouse or a controller’s left analog stick. Interaction with objects and the central terminal is performed by clicking or pressing the A button. Each puzzle presents a grid of tiles or a set of geometric shapes. The player must manipulate these elements to match a target pattern displayed on the terminal. Controls for manipulation include: left-click or A to select a tile, right-click or B to rotate a selected tile, and the scroll wheel or shoulder buttons to zoom in and out of the puzzle grid. The player can also press the spacebar or the Y button to reset the puzzle to its initial state. A memory fragment is collected upon successful completion of a puzzle, which is then stored in an inventory menu accessible by pressing the Tab key or the X button. The inventory allows the player to review collected fragments in any order, but fragments cannot be rearranged. The game does not include a tutorial; all control instructions are displayed as on-screen text prompts upon first entering a chamber. There is no time limit or scoring system. The player progresses linearly through chambers, with the exit door unlocking only after the puzzle is solved.
