Description
Math Driving Test is a simulation and educational video game developed by a small independent studio, released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile devices. The game is designed to assess and improve a player’s knowledge of traffic rules, road signs, and safe driving practices through a series of timed, interactive driving scenarios. The core objective is to complete a virtual driving test by obeying all traffic laws, avoiding collisions, and correctly responding to dynamic road conditions. The game features a realistic 3D environment with varied weather conditions, including rain, fog, and night driving. It includes a comprehensive database of over 200 traffic signs and regulations based on standard international driving codes. The game does not include a narrative or characters; its sole focus is on procedural evaluation of driving competency. The scoring system deducts points for infractions such as speeding, running red lights, improper lane changes, and failing to yield. A passing score requires a minimum of 80% correct actions across a 15-minute test session. The game also offers a practice mode with instant feedback on each maneuver.
Instructions
Gameplay is controlled through a combination of keyboard inputs or touchscreen gestures. The player assumes the role of a driver from a first-person perspective inside a vehicle. The primary controls for the keyboard version are the arrow keys: the up arrow accelerates, the down arrow brakes or reverses, and the left and right arrows steer the vehicle. The spacebar activates the handbrake for emergency stops. The mouse is used to look around the cabin and check mirrors by clicking and dragging. For mobile devices, an on-screen steering wheel and pedal icons are provided, with tilt controls as an optional alternative. The interface displays a speedometer, a rearview mirror, and a heads-up display showing current score, remaining time, and a list of upcoming traffic signs. The player must use turn signals by pressing the Q and E keys (or on-screen buttons) before changing lanes or turning. The horn is activated by pressing the H key. The game provides a virtual dashboard with indicator lights for headlights, windshield wipers, and hazard lights, which must be toggled manually based on weather conditions. A pause menu is accessible via the Escape key, allowing the player to restart the test or return to the main menu. The game does not include a save function during a test; each session must be completed in one sitting.
