Mahjong Toy Chest is a digital puzzle game released for multiple platforms, including personal computers and mobile devices. The game combines traditional Mahjong solitaire mechanics with a visual theme centered on a collection of toys and playthings. The playing field consists of a layered arrangement of tiles, each depicting a different toy, such as building blocks, dolls, marbles, or train cars. The objective is to clear the board by matching pairs of identical toy tiles. The game features a fixed number of levels, each with a unique layout and a specific tile set. A timer is present in most modes, tracking the player’s completion time. The game includes a scoring system that awards points for each successful match, with bonus points awarded for clearing tiles in quick succession or completing a level without using hints. The visual interface presents the tile stack on a wooden or fabric-textured background, with a sidebar displaying the current score, remaining tiles, and available power-ups. The game does not include a narrative or character progression.

Gameplay is initiated by selecting a level from the main menu. The player interacts with the tile stack using a pointing device or touch input. A tile is selected by clicking or tapping on it. A tile can only be selected if it is not blocked by another tile on top of it and has at least one of its left or right edges free from adjacent tiles. Once a tile is selected, it is highlighted. The player then selects a second identical tile that also meets the free-edge and unblocked conditions. If the two tiles match, they are removed from the board. If the selection is incorrect, the tiles are deselected. The game provides a hint function, activated by a button in the interface, which highlights one valid pair. A shuffle function rearranges all remaining tiles on the board, which is useful when no matches are available. An undo function allows the player to reverse the last move. The game ends when all tiles are cleared, resulting in a victory, or when no further matches are possible, resulting in a loss. The player can restart the current level at any time. Controls are limited to left-click or tap for selection, and on-screen buttons for hint, shuffle, and undo. Keyboard shortcuts are not supported in the standard version.
