Description

Mahjong Solitaire: World Tour is a digital tile-matching puzzle game released for multiple platforms, including personal computers and mobile devices. The game is a variation of the classic solitaire-style Mahjong, also known as Shanghai solitaire. Its primary distinguishing feature is a thematic structure based on a global journey. The player progresses through a series of levels, each representing a different city or landmark from around the world, such as Paris, Tokyo, or Cairo. Each location is accompanied by a distinct visual backdrop and a curated selection of tile sets that reflect local cultural motifs, such as cherry blossoms for Japan or hieroglyphs for Egypt. The core objective remains consistent: clear a pyramid-like layout of 144 tiles by matching identical pairs. The game includes a standard set of tile symbols, including bamboo, characters, circles, winds, dragons, and flowers. A scoring system awards points for consecutive matches and for clearing tiles from the bottom of the stack. The game features a timer for each level, though this can be disabled in settings. Completion of a level unlocks the next destination on the tour. The game also includes a hint system and a shuffle function to rearrange tiles when no matches are available. A statistics screen tracks total games played, win rate, and time spent.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are based on point-and-click or touch interface mechanics. The player selects a tile by tapping or clicking on it. A tile is eligible for removal only if it is not blocked on its left or right side and is not covered by another tile. The game highlights eligible tiles with a subtle glow or border. To make a match, the player selects two identical, free tiles in sequence. If the second tile is a valid match, both tiles are removed from the board. If the selection is invalid, the first tile is deselected. The interface displays a score counter, a timer, and a remaining tile count at the top of the screen. A toolbar or menu bar provides access to the hint button, which highlights one possible match; the shuffle button, which randomizes the remaining tile positions; and an undo button, which reverses the last move. The player can also access a pause menu to restart the current level, return to the world map, or adjust audio and visual settings. On mobile devices, the player can zoom in and out of the board using a pinch gesture. On desktop, the mouse wheel performs the same function. The game automatically saves progress after each completed level, allowing the player to resume the tour from the last unlocked destination. No additional input devices are required beyond a mouse, touchscreen, or standard keyboard for menu navigation.
