Description
Leap Legends is a competitive platform fighting game developed by Studio Aether and released in 2023 for personal computers and home consoles. The game features a roster of anthropomorphic characters, each possessing unique movement abilities and combat techniques. Matches take place in vertical, multi-tiered arenas where the primary objective is to knock opponents off the stage. The game distinguishes itself through a momentum-based physics system that governs character jumps, dashes, and aerial maneuvers. A central mechanic is the "Leap Meter," a resource that depletes with each advanced movement action and recharges when a character touches solid ground. The game supports local and online multiplayer for up to four players, as well as a single-player arcade mode with a branching narrative. Each character has a distinct backstory and set of abilities, ranging from teleportation to wall-crawling, which are balanced around the core physics engine. The visual style employs cel-shaded graphics with a color palette that emphasizes high contrast between characters and backgrounds. The game includes a training mode with frame data display and a replay system for competitive analysis.
Instructions
Gameplay is structured around ring-out elimination. Each player controls a character using a standard controller or keyboard. The left analog stick or directional keys control horizontal and vertical movement. The primary action button performs a standard attack, which can be chained into combos by pressing the button in sequence. A secondary attack button executes a special move, the effect of which varies by character. The jump button initiates a single jump; pressing the jump button again while airborne performs a double jump. The dash button triggers a horizontal burst of speed on the ground or a directional dodge in the air. The "Leap" action, mapped to a shoulder button or a dedicated key, consumes a portion of the Leap Meter to perform a high-velocity lunge in any direction. This action can be used offensively to close distance or defensively to evade attacks. The grab button initiates a close-range hold, which can be followed by a throw input to launch an opponent. The shield button creates a temporary barrier that blocks incoming attacks but depletes with sustained damage. Characters can wall-jump by pressing the jump button while touching a vertical surface. The camera is fixed in a side-view perspective, centered on the midpoint between all active players. The HUD displays each player's health percentage, Leap Meter level, and current stock count. A match ends when a player loses all stocks, defined by being knocked off the stage boundary and failing to return.
