Description
Kids Safety Tips is an educational video game designed to teach children fundamental principles of personal safety and hazard avoidance. Developed by a team of child psychologists and educators, the game was released in 2023 for multiple platforms including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. The primary objective is to present realistic scenarios in which a player must make decisions that affect the outcome of a virtual child character. These scenarios cover topics such as road safety, stranger danger, fire prevention, internet privacy, and basic first aid. Each scenario is presented as a short, animated vignette followed by a multiple-choice question or a simple interactive task. The game does not feature a traditional narrative or competitive elements; instead, it functions as a structured tutorial. Feedback is provided immediately after each decision, with correct choices leading to a positive reinforcement animation and incorrect choices prompting a gentle explanation of the safer alternative. The game contains no violence, time limits, or scoring systems that penalize failure. All content is rated E for Everyone and is localized into twelve languages. The visual style employs bright, cartoonish graphics with clear, high-contrast icons to ensure accessibility for young players. The game’s database logs a player’s progress across sessions, allowing for repeated practice of specific safety modules.
Instructions
Gameplay is divided into distinct modules, each focusing on a specific safety category. The player navigates a main menu screen using a mouse or touch input. Each module is represented by an icon, such as a traffic light for road safety or a fire extinguisher for fire safety. Selecting a module begins a short, narrated cutscene that sets up a scenario. After the cutscene, the game presents a decision point. For example, in the road safety module, the player sees a child standing at a crosswalk. The player must choose between two or three on-screen buttons, each labeled with a possible action, such as “Wait for the green light” or “Run across the street.” The player clicks or taps the chosen button. The game then displays a brief animation showing the consequence of that choice. If the choice is correct, a checkmark appears and the module advances to the next scenario. If incorrect, a red X appears, and a text box explains why the alternative was safer. The player can then retry the same scenario. Controls are limited to point-and-click or tap interactions. On desktop versions, the keyboard arrow keys can also be used to highlight options, with the Enter key to confirm. On mobile devices, all interactions are touch-based. The game includes a settings menu accessible from the main screen, where volume, language, and subtitle options can be adjusted. There is no pause function during cutscenes, but the player can exit any module at any time by pressing the Escape key or a back button.
