Description

Jinx & Minx Tower Escape is a two-player cooperative puzzle platformer developed by independent studio Fizzlebyte Games, released in 2023 for PC and Nintendo Switch. The game follows the titular characters, Jinx and Minx, a pair of mischievous twin foxes who are trapped inside a vertically ascending, procedurally generated tower known as the Spire of Echoes. The narrative is delivered through environmental storytelling and sparse, text-based diary entries found within the tower’s rooms. The objective is to ascend through over 100 distinct floors, each presenting a unique spatial puzzle that requires the coordinated actions of both characters to unlock the exit portal. The tower’s aesthetic combines a muted, hand-drawn art style with a dynamic lighting system that shifts between day and night cycles, affecting puzzle visibility and enemy behavior. The game features a minimalist soundtrack that adapts to the player’s progress, with audio cues indicating proximity to hidden collectibles or environmental hazards. The Spire of Echoes is inhabited by hostile, shadow-like entities called Glooms, which are attracted to sound and movement. The game supports local split-screen and online cooperative play, with no single-player mode available.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are centered on asymmetric cooperation between the two fox characters. Each player controls either Jinx or Minx using a separate input device. Jinx possesses a grappling hook that can latch onto designated wooden beams and metal rings, allowing her to swing across gaps or pull objects. Minx has the ability to emit a high-pitched whistle that temporarily stuns Glooms and activates pressure plates. The primary control scheme for both characters uses the left analog stick for movement and the right analog stick for camera adjustment. The A button performs a jump, which can be extended into a double jump when timed correctly. The B button activates each character’s unique ability: Jinx fires the grappling hook, while Minx whistles. The X button is used to interact with levers, doors, and portable objects. The Y button triggers a contextual emote, used for non-verbal communication between players, such as pointing or waving. The game’s interface displays a shared health bar at the top of the screen, which depletes when either character touches a Gloom or falls into a pit. Health is restored by collecting glowing spores found in hidden alcoves. The pause menu allows players to adjust audio levels, toggle subtitles, and recalibrate control sensitivity. The game does not include a tutorial; all mechanics are introduced through environmental puzzles that require trial and error.
