Description

InsectaQuest Adventures is a single-player educational simulation game developed by EntomoSoft and released in 2023 for personal computers and tablet devices. The game places the player in the role of a field researcher tasked with documenting the behaviors, habitats, and life cycles of various arthropod species within a procedurally generated temperate forest ecosystem. The primary objective is to complete a digital field journal by locating, observing, and photographing over 120 distinct insect and arachnid species. The game world is divided into six distinct biomes, including a forest floor, a canopy layer, a freshwater stream, a meadow, a nocturnal zone, and an underground burrow system. Each biome operates on a dynamic day-night cycle and seasonal weather system that directly influences insect activity, such as mating rituals, feeding patterns, and metamorphosis stages. The game emphasizes scientific accuracy; all species models and behaviors are based on real entomological data. Players earn research points for each documented species, which unlock advanced tools like a macro lens, a pheromone lure, and a UV light. The game contains no combat or narrative-driven quests, focusing instead on exploration, observation, and data collection. A built-in encyclopedia provides detailed anatomical diagrams and audio recordings of insect sounds. The game supports a photo mode for capturing high-resolution images, which can be exported for external use.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are managed through a point-and-click interface on PC or a touch-based interface on tablets. The player character is controlled by clicking or tapping on the ground to move. The camera is fixed in a third-person perspective but can be rotated by holding the right mouse button and dragging, or by swiping on a touchscreen. Interaction with the environment is performed by clicking or tapping on objects, such as logs, leaves, or rocks, to reveal hidden insects. To observe an insect, the player must approach within a certain radius and press the spacebar or tap the observation icon. A targeting reticle appears; the player must hold the left mouse button or tap and hold to focus the camera. Once the focus bar fills, the insect is automatically logged into the journal. Photographs are taken by pressing the F key or tapping the camera icon, requiring the insect to remain within the frame for two seconds. Tools are selected from a radial menu opened with the Q key or a dedicated button. The pheromone lure is deployed by clicking a location, attracting specific species for a limited time. The inventory and journal are accessed via the I key or a tab on the screen edge. Movement speed is adjusted with the scroll wheel or a slider. The game autosaves upon entering a new biome or completing a journal entry. No keyboard shortcuts are customizable.
