Description

Hexa Dots is a puzzle video game developed by independent studio Appxplore, first released for mobile platforms in 2015. The game is built around a hexagonal grid, where players connect adjacent dots of the same color to clear them from the board. The objective is to achieve a target score within a limited number of moves, with each cleared dot contributing to the player’s total. The grid is populated with six distinct dot colors, and new dots are added from the top of the screen after each move, gradually increasing the board’s density. The game features a minimalist visual design, with a clean white background and vibrant, flat-colored dots. Progression is structured through a series of levels, each with a unique move limit and score requirement. Failure to meet the target within the allotted moves results in a level restart. The game includes no time pressure, focusing instead on strategic planning and pattern recognition. Power-ups, such as bombs and line-clearing tools, can be earned or purchased to assist in difficult stages. The game’s difficulty escalates as the board fills more rapidly and the required scores increase. Hexa Dots does not incorporate narrative elements or character progression; its core loop is purely based on matching and clearing mechanics.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are executed entirely through touch input on mobile devices. The player selects a dot by tapping it, then drags a finger across adjacent dots of the same color to form a connected chain. A chain must consist of at least two dots to be valid. Upon releasing the finger, the selected chain is removed from the grid, and the dots above fall downward to fill the gaps. New dots then drop from the top of the screen to replenish the board. The number of moves remaining is displayed at the top of the interface, alongside the current score and the target score for the level. The player can also tap a single dot without dragging to deselect it. Power-ups are activated by tapping their icons located at the bottom of the screen. The bomb power-up clears a small radius of dots around a selected hexagon, while the line-clearing tool removes an entire row of dots horizontally. The game provides no undo function; each move is permanent. The interface includes a pause button that halts the game and offers options to restart the level or return to the level select screen. No keyboard or controller support is available; the game is designed exclusively for touch-based interaction.
