Description
Hex Conquest is a turn-based strategy game developed by independent studio Lattice Interactive, released in 2023 for personal computers and tablet devices. The game is set on a procedurally generated map composed entirely of hexagonal tiles, each representing a distinct terrain type such as plains, forests, mountains, or water. The objective is to achieve total territorial domination by capturing and holding a majority of the hexes on the map. The player controls a single faction, selected from a roster of six distinct civilizations, each possessing unique passive bonuses and a special unit. The game features a single-player mode against artificial intelligence opponents and a local multiplayer mode for up to four players. Victory is achieved either by controlling a set percentage of the map’s hexes or by eliminating all opposing factions. The visual style employs a flat, minimalist aesthetic with color-coded tiles and clear iconography for units and resources. The game does not include a narrative campaign or story elements; it is a pure abstract strategy experience focused on spatial control and resource management.
Instructions
Gameplay proceeds in sequential rounds. Each round consists of two phases: the income phase and the action phase. During the income phase, the player receives one resource unit, called Influence, for each hex currently under their control. Influence is the sole currency used to perform all actions. During the action phase, the player may spend Influence to perform three types of actions on any owned hex. The first action is expansion, which costs one Influence per adjacent unowned hex. The player selects an owned hex, then clicks on an adjacent neutral hex to claim it. The second action is reinforcement, which costs two Influence per hex. This action places a defensive garrison token on an owned hex, increasing its capture resistance. The third action is attack, which costs three Influence per target. The player selects an owned hex containing a garrison token, then clicks on an adjacent enemy-controlled hex. A combat resolution occurs instantly based on a deterministic comparison of garrison strengths; the attacker wins if their garrison count exceeds the defender’s. The interface is controlled entirely via mouse or touch input. Left-clicking on a hex selects it, displaying its current owner, garrison count, and terrain type in a sidebar. Right-clicking or tapping a second time deselects. A resource bar at the top of the screen shows the current Influence total and the number of hexes owned. The game ends immediately when a faction meets the victory condition, and a results screen displays the final territory counts.
