Haunted Puzzle Pieces is a digital puzzle game developed by independent studio Spectral Games, released in 2022 for Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms. The game presents a collection of static, hand-drawn scenes depicting abandoned locations, such as a decrepit Victorian mansion, a fog-shrouded cemetery, and a derelict carnival. Each scene is fragmented into a grid of irregularly shaped pieces. The core mechanic involves the player reassembling these pieces to reveal the full image. A distinguishing feature is the inclusion of subtle, animated anomalies within the completed puzzles. After a puzzle is solved, certain elements within the scene—such as a clock hand, a shadow, or a reflection—may shift or flicker briefly. These anomalies do not affect gameplay or scoring. The game contains no narrative, dialogue, or characters. The soundtrack consists of ambient environmental sounds, including creaking wood, wind, and distant chimes. The game offers a single-player experience with no multiplayer or online components. There are no time limits, penalties, or scoring systems. The primary objective is the completion of each puzzle for its own sake.

Gameplay and controls are designed for direct manipulation of puzzle pieces. The player is presented with a workspace containing a scattered pile of pieces on the left side and an empty grid on the right side. The grid serves as the assembly area. Pieces can be moved by clicking and holding the left mouse button (or touch input on mobile) and dragging them to a desired position. A piece snaps into place when its edges align correctly with an adjacent piece within the grid. Pieces can be rotated by pressing the 'R' key on a keyboard or by tapping a rotation icon on a touchscreen. The player can zoom in and out of the workspace using the mouse scroll wheel or a pinch gesture on mobile. A preview button, labeled 'Hint', displays the completed image for three seconds when pressed. This hint has a cooldown of sixty seconds. The game interface includes a counter showing the total number of pieces in the current puzzle and the number of pieces remaining to be placed. There is no undo function; a piece can only be moved again if it is not yet locked into the grid. The game offers three difficulty levels, which determine the number of pieces: Easy (48 pieces), Medium (120 pieces), and Hard (300 pieces). The player selects a puzzle and difficulty from a main menu before starting.
