Description

Hamster Puzzle Keys is a single-player puzzle video game developed by independent studio Nibble Games and released in 2023 for Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms. The game centers on a hamster named Pip who must navigate a series of enclosed environments to collect keys and unlock exits. Each level presents a grid-based arena composed of tiles, obstacles, and locked doors. The core objective is to retrieve a specific number of keys scattered across the map, each corresponding to a color-coded lock, and then reach the exit tile. The game features over 100 levels organized into thematic worlds, including a kitchen, a garden, and a laboratory. The difficulty escalates through the introduction of moving platforms, conveyor belts, glass floors that break after one use, and enemy entities such as robotic cats and vacuum cleaners. The game employs a top-down perspective with a minimalist art style, using flat colors and simple geometric shapes. No narrative or character dialogue is present; the game relies entirely on environmental puzzles. A level editor is included, allowing players to create and share custom puzzles. The game does not include a multiplayer mode or online leaderboards. The soundtrack consists of ambient electronic loops that change per world.

Instructions

The player controls Pip using directional inputs: arrow keys on a keyboard, a virtual joystick on touchscreens, or a D-pad on a controller. Pip moves one tile per input in four cardinal directions. The player must push blocks onto pressure plates to activate bridges, avoid hazards by timing movements, and collect keys by walking over them. Keys are automatically added to an inventory displayed at the top of the screen. To unlock a door, the player must move Pip onto the adjacent tile while possessing the matching key. Doors are color-coded and require exactly one key per door. The game does not allow diagonal movement or jumping. A level is completed when Pip reaches the exit tile after all required keys have been collected. The player can reset the current level at any time by pressing the R key or tapping a reset button. A pause menu is accessible via the Escape key or a pause icon, offering options to return to the level select screen or adjust audio settings. The game provides no hints or tutorials beyond the first three levels, which introduce basic mechanics. The interface displays a move counter and a timer on the HUD, but these do not affect scoring or progression.
