Description

Halloween Burst is a single-player arcade-style video game developed by Spooky Squid Games and released in October 2022 for Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms. The game is set in a procedurally generated haunted village during a Halloween night. The player controls a character known as the "Candy Collector," whose objective is to gather as many pieces of candy as possible while avoiding hostile entities such as ghosts, skeletons, and animated pumpkins. The game world is divided into multiple zones, each with a distinct color palette and enemy behavior pattern. The player's score is determined by the total candy collected, with bonus points awarded for completing specific challenges, such as collecting all candy in a zone without taking damage. The game features a top-down perspective with pixel art graphics and a looping soundtrack composed of synthesized organ and chiptune elements. A single playthrough lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes, with no save function; progress resets upon the player character's defeat. The game includes three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, and Hard, which affect enemy speed, spawn rate, and the number of candy pieces required to complete a zone.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are based on real-time movement and collision detection. The player character moves in eight directions using the arrow keys on a keyboard or a virtual joystick on touchscreen devices. The primary action is collecting candy by moving the character over candy icons scattered across the map. The player has no attack abilities; evasion is the only method of survival. Each zone contains a set number of candy pieces, displayed in a counter at the top of the screen. Once all candy in a zone is collected, a portal appears, allowing the player to advance to the next zone. Enemies patrol predefined paths or chase the player when within a certain radius. Contact with any enemy reduces the player's health by one point. The player starts with three health points, represented by pumpkin icons in the upper-left corner. Health can be restored by collecting rare "glowing candy" items, which appear randomly. The game ends when health reaches zero. A pause function is available by pressing the Escape key or a dedicated on-screen button. The interface includes a score display, a timer, and a mini-map showing the player's position and remaining candy locations. No tutorial is provided; all mechanics are learned through gameplay.
