Description
Halloweem Pumpkin Adventure is a single-player action-platformer video game released in 2010 for Microsoft Windows and later ported to mobile platforms. The game is set in a fictional rural town during the autumn season, where the protagonist, a sentient pumpkin named Jack, must retrieve stolen magical lanterns from a coven of mischievous witches. The narrative unfolds across five distinct levels, each representing a different location: a haunted cornfield, a derelict mansion, a swamp, a pumpkin patch, and the witches’ tower. The game employs a 2.5D side-scrolling perspective with hand-drawn, cel-shaded graphics. The color palette is dominated by oranges, purples, and blacks, reinforcing the Halloween theme. The soundtrack consists of ambient, minor-key instrumental pieces. The game was developed by the independent studio Glowforge Interactive and received moderate critical reception for its level design and difficulty curve, though it was noted for its short playtime of approximately three hours. The game does not feature multiplayer or online components.
Instructions
The player controls Jack using a keyboard or a gamepad. Movement is mapped to the arrow keys or the left analog stick, with the up key or stick used for jumping. The primary action button (spacebar or A button) allows Jack to throw a small seed projectile at enemies. A secondary action button (E or X button) activates a temporary shield that deflects enemy projectiles for two seconds, with a cooldown of five seconds. The player can collect scattered pumpkin seeds throughout levels, which serve as ammunition for the projectile attack. Health is represented by a three-segment pumpkin icon in the upper-left corner; damage from enemies or hazards reduces one segment. Collecting a glowing orange orb restores one health segment. The game features a checkpoint system: upon death, the player respawns at the last activated checkpoint lantern, which is automatically triggered when the player passes within its radius. Each level ends with a boss encounter requiring the player to hit the boss three times with projectiles while avoiding patterned attacks. The pause menu (Escape or Start button) allows the player to adjust volume settings, view the current objective, or quit to the main menu. No tutorial is provided; the controls are displayed on the title screen.
