Description
Grimace Matching is a digital puzzle game released in 2024, developed by an independent studio. The game is classified as a tile-matching and memory exercise. The primary objective is to clear a grid of tiles by pairing identical images of a purple, anthropomorphic character known as Grimace. The game features a single-player mode with a series of levels that increase in complexity. Each level presents a grid of face-down tiles, each bearing a distinct expression or pose of the character. The game’s visual design employs a minimalist, flat-color aesthetic with a limited palette centered on purple and magenta tones. Sound effects are limited to a single chime for a successful match and a low tone for a mismatch. The game does not include a narrative or character development. It is available on mobile platforms and web browsers. The core mechanic relies on the player’s short-term visual memory and pattern recognition. The game tracks the number of moves and the time taken to complete each level, providing a score based on these metrics. No in-game purchases or advertisements are present in the standard version.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are based on a turn-based system. The player interacts with a grid of face-down tiles. On each turn, the player selects two tiles by tapping or clicking on them. The first tap reveals the image on the tile. The second tap reveals the image on a second tile. If the two revealed images are identical, both tiles remain face-up and are removed from the grid. If the images are not identical, both tiles are flipped back to their face-down state after a brief delay of one second. The player must then attempt to remember the positions of the revealed images for future turns. The game ends when all tiles have been matched and removed from the grid. The interface consists of the tile grid, a move counter, a timer, and a level indicator. There are no additional control options, such as hints or shuffles. The player cannot undo a move. The game automatically advances to the next level upon clearing the current grid. The difficulty increases by adding more tiles to the grid or by introducing tiles with very similar facial expressions. The controls are responsive to single taps or clicks only. No drag, swipe, or multi-touch gestures are supported.
