Description

Goodnight My Baby is a 2023 interactive narrative simulation developed by Studio Furi. The game places the player in the role of a nocturnal caregiver responsible for a sleeping infant. The core experience is structured around a single night cycle, from dusk until dawn, within a single-room nursery environment. The game’s primary objective is to maintain the baby’s state of deep sleep while managing the caregiver’s own limited energy and attention. The environment is rendered in a muted, low-light color palette, with sound design focused on ambient noises such as a ticking clock, distant traffic, and the baby’s breathing. The game features no dialogue or text-based narrative; all storytelling is conveyed through environmental details, the baby’s subtle reactions, and the gradual progression of time. The game’s difficulty scales dynamically based on the player’s actions, introducing random disturbances such as a passing storm, a neighbor’s pet, or the caregiver’s own fatigue. The game concludes at sunrise, with the outcome determined by the total duration of the baby’s uninterrupted sleep.

Instructions

Gameplay is controlled entirely through a point-and-click interface. The player interacts with a fixed, first-person perspective of the nursery. The cursor changes contextually when hovering over interactive objects. The primary action is to soothe the baby. When the baby stirs or begins to cry, a visual indicator appears on the crib. The player must click and hold the cursor over the baby to perform a rocking motion. The duration of the hold determines the intensity of the soothing. A secondary action involves managing the environment. The player can click on a lamp to dim or brighten the light, a window to adjust the curtain, or a music box to play a lullaby. Each action consumes a portion of the caregiver’s stamina bar, displayed at the bottom of the screen. Stamina regenerates slowly when the player is idle. The player must also monitor a “disturbance meter” in the upper right corner, which fills when external noises occur. Clicking on the source of the noise, such as a creaking floorboard or a ringing phone, can reduce the meter. Failure to respond to a disturbance or to soothe the baby within a time limit results in the baby waking, which triggers a game-over sequence and a restart of the night cycle. The game saves progress only at the conclusion of a successful night.
