Description

Good Slice is a digital puzzle game developed by independent studio Flatware Games, released in 2023. The game presents a minimalist, top-down perspective of a circular cutting board. The core objective involves dividing a variety of procedurally generated, irregularly shaped food items into a specified number of equal-area portions. Each level presents a distinct food item, such as a block of cheese, a fruit, or a slab of dough, with a target number of slices. The player must draw straight lines across the item to partition it. The game calculates the area of each resulting piece in real time. A level is completed only when all pieces are exactly equal in area, within a tolerance of one percent. The game features a muted color palette and a clean, geometric art style. No timers or scoring systems are present. The difficulty escalates through increasingly complex shapes and higher slice counts, requiring precise spatial reasoning. The game includes a sandbox mode where the player can create custom shapes and slice targets.

Instructions

The player interacts with the game using a mouse or touch input. On the main playfield, a single food item is displayed on a circular board. The player clicks and drags to draw a straight line across the item. The line is rendered as a thin, dashed guide until the mouse button is released. Upon release, the line becomes a permanent cut, dividing the item into two or more polygons. The game automatically calculates and displays the area of each resulting piece as a numerical value near its center. A target number of slices and a target area per slice are shown in a fixed interface panel at the top of the screen. The player can undo the most recent cut by pressing the 'Z' key or a dedicated undo button. The entire level can be reset to its initial state with the 'R' key. The player must continue making cuts until the number of pieces matches the target slice count and all area values are identical. The game provides no hints or visual guides for optimal cut placement. A level is automatically cleared upon meeting the area equality condition, and the next level loads.
