Go Octopus Find Pearl is a single-player puzzle-adventure game developed by independent studio Tidal Pixel Games and released in 2023 for PC and mobile platforms. The game is set in a stylized underwater environment where the player controls a small octopus tasked with locating a series of hidden pearls scattered across various ocean biomes. Each level presents a confined, three-dimensional space filled with coral reefs, rock formations, and kelp forests. The octopus can camouflage against surfaces, squeeze through narrow crevices, and manipulate objects using its tentacles. The objective is to retrieve a specific pearl, often guarded by environmental hazards such as electric eels, sharp urchins, or shifting currents. The game employs a physics-based movement system where the octopus’s body deforms and stretches realistically in response to terrain. There is no combat; instead, the player must use stealth and environmental interaction to progress. The narrative is minimal, conveyed through brief text logs found in sunken shipwrecks, which hint at a lost civilization that valued the pearls for their luminescent properties. The game features a color palette dominated by deep blues, greens, and bioluminescent accents, with ambient sound design of bubbling water and distant whale calls. Each level has a time limit, and completion times are recorded for optional replay optimization.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are based on direct manipulation of the octopus’s body. On PC, the player uses the mouse to click and drag on the octopus to pull it in a direction; releasing the mouse button propels the octopus forward with momentum. The scroll wheel adjusts the grip strength of the tentacles, allowing the octopus to cling to surfaces or release objects. The keyboard keys W, A, S, D control the octopus’s orientation and rotation in the water column. The spacebar triggers a short burst of ink, which obscures vision for two seconds and can distract hostile creatures. On mobile, touch controls replace the mouse: a single finger drag moves the octopus, a two-finger pinch adjusts grip strength, and a tap on the screen releases ink. The interface displays a health bar represented by the octopus’s color saturation; damage from hazards reduces saturation, and resting near a safe coral patch restores it. A minimap in the upper-right corner shows the pearl’s general location as a pulsing dot, but does not reveal obstacles. The player can also press the E key (or a dedicated button on mobile) to enter a camouflage mode, which slows movement but makes the octopus nearly invisible to enemies for up to ten seconds, with a cooldown of thirty seconds. The game saves progress automatically at the start of each level, and there is no manual save function.
