Description
Formula Car Circuit Racing is a simulation-oriented racing video game developed by Digital Circuit Software and released in 2003 for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 2. The game focuses on replicating the experience of driving open-wheel formula cars on closed-circuit tracks. It features a roster of 22 fictional teams and 44 drivers, each with distinct performance statistics for acceleration, braking, cornering, and tire wear. The game includes 18 circuits modeled after real-world locations, such as Monte Carlo, Monza, and Suzuka, though all tracks are presented under licensed pseudonyms. A career mode allows players to progress through a season of 16 races, managing fuel loads, tire compounds, and pit stop strategies. The physics engine calculates aerodynamic downforce, suspension geometry, and traction loss based on surface temperature and rubber buildup. The game supports up to 22 AI opponents with adjustable difficulty levels. A split-screen multiplayer mode for two players is available on the console version, while the PC version supports LAN play for up to 12 participants. The title received moderate critical reception for its realistic handling model but was noted for a steep learning curve and limited graphical fidelity compared to contemporary releases.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are structured around a standard racing simulation interface. The primary control scheme uses an analog stick or directional pad for steering, with the right analog stick or shoulder buttons for throttle and brake modulation. On keyboard, the arrow keys control steering and acceleration, while the Z and X keys manage braking and gear shifting. The game employs a manual transmission by default, with sequential gear changes mapped to the R1 and L1 buttons on console controllers. An automatic transmission option is available in the settings menu. The HUD displays a tachometer, speedometer, gear indicator, and a sector timer. A rearview mirror is rendered in the top-center of the screen. During a race, the player can access a pit menu by pressing the Select button, which allows adjustments to tire compound (soft, medium, hard), fuel load (in liters), and front/rear wing angles. The game includes a telemetry screen that shows real-time data on tire temperature, brake wear, and engine RPM. A flashback feature is not present; mistakes require manual recovery or restarting the session. The pause menu offers options to adjust camera angles, including cockpit, bumper, chase, and helicopter views. The game also includes a practice mode with adjustable weather conditions and a time trial mode with ghost car functionality.
