Description

Emilys Hotel Solitaire is a digital card game released in 2023, developed by the independent studio Silver Lining Games. The game combines traditional Klondike-style solitaire mechanics with a light narrative framework set in a fictional hotel. The player assumes the role of a manager tasked with restoring the dilapidated Emily’s Hotel to its former grandeur. The game is structured around a series of levels, each representing a room or area of the hotel. Progression is achieved by completing solitaire hands, which award in-game currency and renovation tokens. These resources are used to purchase furniture, wallpaper, and decorative items, visually updating the hotel’s environment. The game features over 150 unique solitaire layouts, each with a predetermined card arrangement. A scoring system tracks moves, time, and consecutive wins, with higher scores unlocking bonus content such as themed card backs and ambient soundtracks. The visual style employs a muted, pastel color palette with hand-drawn illustrations of hotel interiors. No multiplayer or online connectivity is required; the game is a single-player experience available on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android platforms. The narrative is delivered through brief text pop-ups between levels, but the core gameplay remains independent of the story.

Instructions

Gameplay follows standard Klondike solitaire rules. The objective is to move all cards from the tableau and stockpile to four foundation piles, sorted by suit in ascending order from Ace to King. The tableau consists of seven columns, with the first column containing one card, the second two, and so on. Only the top card of each column is face-up. Cards in the tableau can be moved between columns in descending order and alternating colors. A completed sequence of cards can be moved as a single unit. The stockpile, located in the upper left, provides additional cards; clicking it deals one card at a time to the waste pile. The waste pile’s top card is playable. The game offers an undo button that reverses the last move, limited to three uses per hand. A hint button highlights a valid move, also limited. Controls are mouse-based on desktop and touch-based on mobile. Left-click or tap a card to select it, then click or tap the destination. Dragging is also supported. The player can right-click or long-press to automatically send a card to its correct foundation pile if the move is legal. The game automatically shuffles a new hand upon completing or failing a level. A pause menu allows adjustment of sound volume, screen resolution, and card animation speed. No timers or penalties exist for slow play, though a move counter is displayed.
